Akihabara Dennō Gumi was licensed by ADV Films for North American distribution in mid-2003 and announced at the company’s 2003 Otakon panel. The series was a somewhat unexpected acquisition, as it had ended four years earlier with minimal English language interest.

The ADV Films release of the series featured both an English dub and the original Japanese audio. Akihabara Dennō Gumi‘s home video release began in late 2004, with a total of six individual discs that included all 26 episodes.

Before ADV Films dissolved in 2009, they re-released the complete series twice: once in a thinpak set (2006) and once in a plastic case (2009). Since then, no other company has picked up the rights for a U.S. re-release. As a result, the ADV Films DVDs remain the only official U.S. versions of the series.

As of March 2025, the 2011 film 2011-nen no Natsuyasumi has not been officially licensed or released in English.

Single DVD Releases (2004-2005)

Akihabara Dennō Gumi was released on six individual DVDs, each featuring basic on-disc extras and audio tracks in both Japanese and English. During the early 2000s, there was a surge in anime distribution in the US, so it was common for even older titles like Akihabara Dennō Gumi to be released on single discs before full collection sets would be offered.

The volume covers blend a mix of art originally used on the Japanese DVD, LD and VHS covers with some Diva artwork used only on these US DVD releases. The first two volumes have a distinctly more childish and colourful look to them while volumes three through six lean more heavily into the “cyber” theme. Each DVD came with a full-color insert listing the episodes and extras included on the disc.

Complete Collection DVD Thinpak (2006)

After the release of the six individual Akihabara Dennō Gumi volumes in 2005, ADV Films re-released the series as a five-DVD “thinpak” collection in mid-2006. This set offered a more affordable alternative to purchasing the six individual discs, but it did not include the on-disc extras found in the single DVD volumes. The artwork for each volume in this collection was created by Kotobuki Tsukasa and was originally used for the Japanese single-disc releases.

Complete Collection DVD Set (2009)

The final Akihabara Dennō Gumi DVD release from ADV Films was a second Complete Collection, this time a five disc set inside a single plastic case. Released in 2009, this cost effective set was even cheaper than the 2006 Thinpak release and a very affordable way to own the TV series. Like the Thinpak however, this DVD set did not include any of the on-disc extras from the individual six disc release in 2004-2005. The cover art for this Complete Collection was originally used for the cover of the Japanese volume one DVD and features Hibari/Aphrodite, as illustrated by Kotobuki Tsukasa.
